Dementia Awareness

Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK. Having worked to launch a dementia support service for the Alzheimer’s Society, we have the skills and experience to work alongside your business, organisation, family, or care service to develop a high quality training program suited to meet your specific needs.

Dementia Awareness Training

Our Dementia Awareness training course has been designed to assist care workers and health professionals in their understanding of dementia and, in turn, give them confidence to work alongside people who are living with dementia. From participating in our training they will have opportunity to gain a greater understanding of dementia and will learn how to build relationships and offer practical help through person centred care.

Our training aims are:

  • To provide an understanding of the term ‘dementia’
  • To provide a basic knowledge of some of the different types of dementia
  • To recognise the main signs, symptoms and causes
  • To improve understanding of dementia and its effects
  • To show how communication can be improved with the person with dementia
  • To demonstrate how small things can make a difference to people living with dementia
  • To increase effectiveness in recognising people who are suspected to have dementia or memory problems
  • To help and support carers and family members of persons with dementia or memory problems
  • To raise awareness of support available to those who have dementia or memory problems, their family members and carers
  • To be aware of equality and diversity in dementia
  • To recognise and help prevent abuse

The Dementia Friends initiative

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is their biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends, promoting Dementia Awareness to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.
